Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Which MUM4 package includes both a blender and shredder?
The family manual lists both tools in the MUM4420UC package; the MUM4620UC lists a blender but not the shredder. This is an earlier configuration and a seller’s exact parts still need inspection.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the shredder run at the same time as bowl mixing?
No. Bosch documents these as separate attachments on separate drive positions. A must-have for the bundled shredder identifies package capability, not a simultaneous multi-tool operation.
Explore this need in the finder →Does this package have a larger bowl than other MUM4 Compact models?
No. The shared manual lists a four-quart bowl for all four Compact configurations. The MUM4420UC adds food-preparation attachments, not bowl volume.
Explore this need in the finder →The MUM4420UC is the most attachment-heavy of Bosch’s four listed Compact packages, but its mixer bowl is still four quarts and its ordinary mixing tools are the same dough hook, stirring whisk and beating whisk used across the family. The added value is in two extra jobs: the box includes a separate blender and a continuous shredder with slicing and grating discs. If you will use those pieces, this is a different package from the MUM4405UC basic mixer; if you only bake, the extra parts add setup and storage without changing the bowl size.
One machine, separate operations
Bosch’s Compact manual calls the MUM4420UC a 400-watt unit with a four-quart bowl, anti-splash cover, three mixing tools, blender attachment and continuous shredder set. It also names a high-speed drive cover and accessory holder. The attachment drives are not interchangeable with a generic stand-mixer hub: the blender and shredder each use their intended Bosch drive and setup. You do not run the bowl tools and food-processing attachments simultaneously; the practical benefit is changing the machine between mixing, blending and slicing/grating jobs.
For baking, use the hook for heavier or yeast dough, the stirring whisk for cake mixtures and lighter cookie dough, and the beating whisk for lighter mixtures such as cream or egg whites. Bosch’s instructions call for raising the arm when fitting the bowl or tools and lowering it into the operating position. The splash cover has a filling funnel and is meant to remain in place while running. The shredder is a separate assembly with sharp discs: the manual instructs users to handle the blades carefully and to turn the unit off and unplug before clearing a jam or changing parts.
The shared manual gives four quarts for the bowl. It does not turn that volume into one universal dough promise, and a used machine’s included tools or bowl do not prove its condition. Use the correct recipe and the manual’s instructions rather than extrapolating from a bowl label or from a different MUM model.
Where the package makes sense
Choose the MUM4420UC when the blender and the slicing/grating functions are both genuinely useful. Compared with the MUM4620UC, its distinctive addition is the continuous shredder and discs. Compared with the MUM4635UC, the manual describes the same broad attachment set but lists a 400-watt rather than 450-watt power unit. Those are manufacturer labels, not measurements of mixing results; they are not enough to claim that the MUM4635UC performs better. The MUM4405UC lacks both the blender and the shredder package, while retaining the same basic four-quart mixing layout.
The white plastic body and bowl are a fit for a cook who prefers one compact machine to several separate countertop tools. The tradeoff is a fuller accessory set to organize, clean and verify. If you only need a mixer, the MUM4405UC package is simpler. If you want a blender but not a slicer/shredder, the MUM4620UC avoids one bundle of discs. If you want both functions, compare the MUM4420UC and MUM4635UC by exact model code and the particular package documentation, not by a generic MUM4 listing.
Buying an earlier unit
Bosch retains a U.S. support page for MUM4420UC/03 and the official family manual names the exact base code. That is useful evidence for identifying a unit, not proof of current stock or a complete seller package. Check the rating plate and confirm the bowl and splash cover, hook, both whisks, blender jar and lid, shredder body, pusher and discs are actually present. Missing or cracked parts can change whether this all-in-one package is worthwhile. Also verify the machine can be safely used on the household supply specified for the North American model; do not substitute a foreign MUM4 variant merely because it looks similar.
This is an earlier-model reference and appears only when earlier machines are included in the finder. It is not a current Bosch purchase recommendation. For an existing owner, the Bosch MUM4420UC/03 support page and shared Compact manual help identify the package and operating sequence.
