A useful fit for

A household that values a hand/stand motor, six-speed controls and an extra nested bowl for moving between recipe stages, with batches that fit a four-quart setup.

The main tradeoff

It is not a conventional tilt-head or bowl-lift, each nested bowl capacity and dishwasher status are not individually confirmed, and the manual does not publish a dough-batch maximum or stand-mode minimum quantity.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you want a four-quart mixer that can leave its stand between tasks?

Hamilton Beach identifies the exact 64693 as a hand mixer that unlocks from the stand, with six speeds and a 4-quart glass-and-plastic bowl set. Select this arrangement only if handheld operation and the bowl volume fit your actual routine.

Does the supplied package include a dough hook for yeast-dough mixing?

The exact 64693 product page lists dough hooks and its linked M33 guide gives a speed chart that includes kneading tasks. The guide does not publish a universal dough weight, loaf count or speed ceiling; follow the recipe and begin at speed 1.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is a three-quart secondary bowl essential?

The 64693 page confirms an extra nested plastic bowl but does not separately identify it as three quarts. A must-have three-quart bowl remains unconfirmed; do not infer that size from the two-bowl image or the 4-quart set description.

Must the mixer have a built-in timer or powered attachment hub?

Neither a built-in timer nor a powered hub is confirmed on the exact product page or M33 guide. An essential requirement for either feature must remain unmet unless you verify it for the exact configuration.

The Hamilton Beach 64693 is a six-speed hand mixer that locks onto a stand, sold with a nested glass-and-plastic bowl set. It is a more specific package than the phrase “stand mixer” suggests: the motor can leave the stand, the bowl support moves with a Shift & Stir lever, and the extra bowl is meant to let you move between recipe steps without washing the first one immediately. That combination can make sense for a small kitchen or a baker who likes handheld control. It is not a conventional tilt-head or bowl-lift, and the official page does not publish a universal dough capacity.

Two nested bowls change the order of work

Hamilton Beach’s exact product page calls out an extra bowl and describes 4-quart glass and plastic bowls that nest for storage. That is the 64693’s clearest distinction from other compact hand/stand models: a second vessel can keep a sequence such as creaming in one bowl and preparing another mixture in the next moving without a wash in between. The page does not separately state a maximum fill for each bowl or identify a three-quart bowl, so do not treat “extra bowl” as proof of a smaller capacity.

The Shift & Stir lever moves the turntable side to side. The manual explains that this lets you place the beaters nearer the bowl edge or center. It is a manual positioning aid, not a claim that the bowl has a planetary rotation path. If you want a conventional stand mixer head that stays mounted while you raise a bowl or tilt the head back, compare the arrangement first rather than relying on the word “stand.”

Hand mode is built in, but small-batch promises are limited

The product page says the mixer unlocks from the stand and doubles as a hand mixer. The Use & Care guide includes separate hand-mixer and stand-mixer setup instructions: attach the selected tools with the unit unplugged, seat the motor on the level platform for stand use, and start at speed 1. This gives the 64693 two real operating plans from one motor, instead of requiring a separate hand mixer in the cupboard.

The 64693 guide gives no minimum stand-bowl amount. Detachable hand use is not proof that very small quantities will whip in the docked bowl; use hand mode if the bowl geometry calls for it. If you will not use handheld operation or the extra bowl, this two-mode package may add storage pieces without adding value.

Six speeds and the dough guidance

The exact model page lists six speeds, QuickBurst and a 275-watt peak-power figure. The M33 guide separately prints an electrical rating of 120 volts, 60 hertz, 2.15 amps or 250 watts. Those numbers describe different things; neither is a direct measurement of dough capacity or mixing quality. Start at speed 1 as the manual recommends. Its guide assigns tasks across the range and lists kneading at more than one speed, so it does not support a universal speed ceiling for yeast dough.

The booklet calls cookie dough one of the thickest mixtures and advises adding flour a cup at a time and stirring chips or nuts into very thick dough by hand. It states no maximum dough weight or loaf count; do not convert bowl volume into a bread-batch claim. QuickBurst is limited to two minutes at a time to prevent overheating, so it is not a continuous-kneading setting.

Tools and cleanup are package-specific

The 64693 page lists beaters, a whisk and dough hooks; that is enough for general mixing, whipping and hook-based recipes. It does not list a pouring shield or a powered attachment hub. The guide covers both installation routines and says to unplug before inserting or ejecting tools. For a job that depends on a named accessory, check the exact carton contents.

Neither the exact product page nor the accessible care text clearly states that the 64693 bowls or attachments are dishwasher-safe. The guide recommends washing tools in hot, soapy water before first use and warns not to immerse the mixer body, cord or plug. Plan to clean those pieces separately and follow any more specific instructions supplied with your unit; the extra bowl saves a wash between recipe steps, but it does not establish a dishwasher-safe set.

Keep 64693 separate from similar model numbers

The Type M33 manual lists 64693, 64695, 64698 and 64699, and allows suffixes on listed models. That establishes a manual family, not interchangeable packages: siblings require their own package and lifecycle checks. The exact 64693 page showed Add to Cart when checked; no lasting price claim is made.

Which needs point elsewhere?

Choose the 64693 if you want stand and handheld modes, six speeds, dough hooks and a second bowl for a multi-step routine, and if a four-quart setup matches your normal batches. The white 64655 is a close hand/stand comparison with a four-quart stainless bowl and a different five-tool package; its M32 guide specifically describes one-loaf dough-hook use, which the 64693 manual does not. The Hamilton Beach 63387 instead has a tilt-up head, a stainless bowl, seven speeds and a removable splatter shield, but not this detachable-motor-and-nested-bowls arrangement. A five-quart tilt-head or a 5.5-quart bowl-lift is a better direction if bowl size or conventional access matters more than the 64693’s two-mode design.

This assessment is based on Hamilton Beach’s exact 64693 page and M33 Use & Care guide, not hands-on ownership or laboratory testing. Read the hand/stand setup guide for practical differences between detachable packages, and use the mixer finder to make a four-quart bowl, included hook or required handheld mode an explicit constraint.
