How to compare Bosch Compact MUM4 package choices
Bosch’s U.S. Compact-series instruction manual identifies four kitchen-machine configurations: MUM4405UC, MUM4420UC, MUM4620UC and MUM4635UC. They share a four-quart plastic bowl and the same basic mixing set—dough hook, stirring whisk and beating whisk—but the included food-preparation attachments differ. That makes the exact model suffix and the parts actually offered more useful than a broad “Bosch Compact” label.
Read the package, not the family name
- MUM4405UC: mixing bowl, splash cover, hook, stirring whisk and beating whisk. The exact U.S. page says no longer available; it is an earlier option, not a current-stock recommendation.
- MUM4620UC: the basic mixing set plus a blender and accessory holder; no continuous shredder is listed.
- MUM4420UC: blender plus continuous shredder with slicing and grating discs, in addition to the mixing set.
- MUM4635UC: also lists a blender and continuous shredder with discs, with a 450-watt unit in the manual’s package description.
All four are compact, corded household machines with a hinged arm that is released and raised for bowl and tool access. The manual assigns the dough hook to heavier dough, the stirring whisk to cake mixtures and lighter cookie dough, and the beating whisk to light mixtures. It recommends placing liquid ingredients in first when combining a recipe and using the splash cover during operation. Choose the included blender only if you plan to use it; choose the shredder package only if its disc work belongs in your normal routine. Either attachment is a separate setup on its intended drive, not a second task performed at the same time as the mixer bowl.
Capacity and power labels need context
The shared manual calls the bowl four quarts. Bosch’s exact MUM4405UC specification sheet gives a 3.9-liter bowl and shows inconsistent dough-capacity figures in separate fields; use the exact recipe instructions instead of treating nominal bowl volume as a universal dough limit. There is also a power-label conflict for the MUM4405UC: its exact product page and sheet state 450 watts, while the manual’s package introduction says 400 watts. The manual lists 400 watts for the MUM4420UC and 450 watts for the MUM4620UC and MUM4635UC. None of those printed values is a comparative mixing test.
The accessory systems are Bosch-specific drive positions rather than a generic mixer hub. A compatible attachment should be checked by its exact Bosch accessory code. Do not assume that a MUM6 accessory, a European MUM4 model or a sibling’s pictured parts fit the specific North American unit. Before buying a used configuration, compare the rating plate to the model in the listing and confirm the bowl, splash cover, correct tools and any blender or shredder components are actually included and intact. Bosch’s online support page can be searched by the appliance’s E-Nr for manuals and parts.
Choosing an earlier machine
The Compact models are retained here as earlier product references. MUM4405UC is explicitly marked no longer available on Bosch’s exact page; the other three have Bosch support records but no current U.S. retail status established in this guide. When the finder’s earlier-model option is selected, it can help match a specific listing to the documented package. That is not a claim that stock exists, that a used machine has passed inspection or that every accessory can still be replaced. If you want a current mixer with a larger bowl, metal bowl or common powered hub, compare those requirements directly against current model pages rather than assuming the MUM4’s old bundle is the same kind of setup.
For the exact packaging and operating details, see Bosch’s Compact-series instruction manual, the MUM4405UC product page, and the retained Bosch U.S. support pages for MUM4420UC/03, MUM4620UC/03 and MUM4635UC/01.
